According to legend, in 1755 a young woman from Bordeaux called Marie Brizard crossed the Place Royale in Bordeaux and found Thomas, an Antillean sailor who was on board the ship L'Intrépide, in a corner. Thomas was afflicted with a high fever and Marie heals him and saves him. In gratitude, the sailor gives him his only treasure: the secret of an extraordinarily fresh and fragrant anise liqueur. That same year, Marie associates with her nephew Jean-Baptiste Roger and founds the company Marie Brizard. Today, Anisette is the historical pillar of the Marie Brizard brand and is part of the aristocratic universe of French spirits.
